Yull Brown discovered a substance called brown’s gas, commonly known as HHO. This process separates water into two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom. This is done by using a small amount of electricity from your car battery. This mix is then injected into your engine and is combined with the gas you already use which results in a 35% increase in fuel efficiency and performance as soon as it is installed. This process is referred to as electrolysis.

Your car only burns a portion of the fuel that is pumped into it; some of it evaporates, and even more either escapes through the tailpipe or is burnt by the cataleptic converter, which was designed to help prevent pollution. It is estimated that around 80% of your fuel is wasted through your exhaust system. If you can learn to how to build a hydrogen generator for your car, you can help stop this waste and buy less gas at the pump and also improve your car’s performance.

US President George W. Bush outlined in his State of the Union Address his administration’s aim to reduce the country’s dependency on foreign oil. The “Twenty in Ten”, essentially reducing gasoline consumption by twenty percent in ten years time, has received the support of the Big Three as the heads of General Motors, the Ford Motor Company and Chrysler Corp. attended a meeting with the President recently.

Good news for the administration is the use of alternative fuels by large vehicle fleets. The President inspected the alternative fuel vehicles used by large fleets in the United States.

Among the largest fleet in the country using fuel efficient vehicles are the U.S. Postal Service, FedEx, UPS, and the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority. These large fleets are contributing to the country’s energy independence by using different types of alternative fuel vehicles on their fleet. These fleets use a variety of alternative fuel vehicles which includes hybrid electric vehicles, biodiesel engines, compressed natural gas or CNG, liquefied natural gas, propane, and hydrogen fuel cell units.

All these technologies are known to be good substitute to gasoline since they all come from renewable sources and have limited greenhouse gas emissions as when compared to petroleum gasoline or diesel fuel.

Among the large fleets in America, the U.S. Postal Service has the largest number of alternative fuel vehicles being used. The 13 percent of the 289,000 vehicles in the fleet represents the biggest fleet of alternative fuel vehicles in the world. Hybrids, biodiesel, compressed natural gas, and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles composed thirteen percent of the U.S. Postal Service’s fleet.

UPS, meanwhile, has the biggest alternative fuel fleet in its class with over 1,500 alternative fuel vehicles. Its alternative fuel vehicle fleet is composed of compressed natural gas, liquefied natural gas, propane, hydrogen fuel cell, and hybrid electric vehicles.

FedEx operates about a hundred hybrid electric diesel vehicles in its alternative fuel vehicle fleet. The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority or METRO, like FedEx, also takes advantage of the hybrid electric diesel technology. It has already 50 units of alternative fuel vehicles on the road and being used as part of their service.

These large fleets clearly support the Clean Cities Program which promotes the use of alternative fuel vehicles to reduce gasoline consumption. The program is in connection with President Bush’s “Twenty in Ten” goal. The vehicles used by these fleets are as reliable and safe as Volvo S60 parts and at the same time provides the fleet operators good fuel economy.

The production of greenhouse gases is also reduced thereby lessening the negative impact of their fleets on the environment. With the plug-in hybrid still in development, these fleets have the potential to even expand their alternative fuel vehicle fleet.

Fuel Cells That Fit in a Laptop

Welcome to a Laptop Battery specialist of the Acer Laptop Battery   First post by: www.laptop-battery-stores.com

In the world of portable electronic devices “Whose lasts longest?” is usually more relevant than “Whose is the strongest?”

Working on that theme, a startup from Munich, Smart Fuel Cell GmbH, has developed a micro fuel cell that runs on methanol and provides much longer life than any other portable battery.

The race for micro fuel cells that power devices is heating up. Several companies — among them Mechanical Technologies, Motorola, Manhattan Scientifics, Ball Aerospace, Fraunhofer Institute and Samsung — are frantically working on developing micro fuel cells for mobile and portable devices.

While many micro fuel cell companies have yet to show any real product, Smart Fuel Cell has been rapidly advancing its micro fuel cell line. In late January, the Bavarian company will roll out a pilot production of its first portable methanol fuel cells — just three months after having unveiled its first prototype.

A fuel cell is an electrochemical device that produces electric power from either hydrogen or alternative fuels such as methanol, propane, butane or natural gas.

So far, most of the fuel cell companies have focused their methanol fuel cell research on hybrids, a combination of batteries and fuel cells as backup; mostly in “sub watt” categories such as mobile phones and lights that fit in a pocket. Smart Fuel Cell’s device is the first to not require any standard batteries such as  Acer BTP-550P Battery. It is aimed at power-hungry devices such as notebook computers, camcorders and specific applications for the environmental and the transportation markets.

“Our first potential OEM (original equipment manufacturer) customers are already holding their first units in their hands,” said Manfred Stefener, CEO of Smart Fuel Cell.

Smart Fuel Cell currently manufactures its products in Munich and expects to produce up to 2,000 units by the end of this year.

In the following years, the company’s ambitious goal is to increase its output by tenfold. By the year 2004, Smart Fuel Cell expects to produce at least 100,000 units, enough for mass production.

Nevertheless, portable fuel cells are in their infancy. Investment costs to generate 1 kilowatt are still very high, around ,000 to 0,000 dollars per produced kilowatt.

But Stefener said portable fuel cells may swiftly become cost competitive. “Just in a couple of years, micro fuel cells could be competitive with Lithium-ion batteries, which are commonly used in notebook computers.”

Still, the success of micro fuel cells will likely be highly dependent on the infrastructure and their ease of use. Smart Fuel Cell has designed small tamper-proof methanol cartridges that snap right into the unit.

Recharging the battery will only involve replacing the liquid fuel and won’t require shutting down the computer. “The content of our prototype cartridge holds 120 ml methanol and generates about 150 Wh — enough to power a 15W notebook computer for 10 hours,” Stefener explained.

Question by KAAJAL: Why is this fuel cell impotant to astronauts?

ok so I’m doing my chemistry homework and it’s on electrochemistry. And I need to know why an oxygen hydrogen fuel cell is important to astronauts..can anyone help me please?

Best answer:

Answer by Jason T
Two reasons. Firstly, the combination of oxygen and hydrogen across a platinum catalyst generates elctricity, which is of course very important for keeping the spacecraft operational. Secondly, the product of this combination is water, which is of course useful for keeping the astronaut operational!

The operation of a fuel cell is the reverse of electrolysis. I’m sure you’ve done the experiment where you put an electric current through water and get hydrogen liberated at one electrode and oxygen at the other. In other words, splitting water using an electric current. Fuel cells work the other way, combining hydrogen and oxygen to generate an electric current.

let me start off by saying Hydrogen is a great option for the concept of free energy. I built my first hydrogen cell about 5 years ago. Have converted over 50 vehicles in the last 10 years (gydrogen and EV) and now currently run 2 trucks (and another EV), my home hot water heater, home stove and home generator on hydrogen for free with caught rain water and the help of a $ 10 solar panel. I offer a step by step DIY guide to walk anyone interested threw the process. You can find it at www agua-luna com or you can email me.

There are basically 3 safe ways to make and use it… chemically, electrically and molecularly, the first 2 being easier so I’ll only discuss them here. The fallowing steps were taking directly out of a DIY guide I offer to those who would like to run their vehicles or home on hydrogen safely. The entire guide is available at www agua-luna com

On demand h2 generators are a bit different from the Hollywood versions like seen Chain Reaction with Keanu Reeves, that tend to explode violently every time a film is being made. However when used in an on-demand system there is no storage of hydrogen and oxygen in its gas form, only liquid (water) and is only transformed into gas “on-demand” in small cylinder size amounts. It’s actually safer then gasoline as it doesn’t evaporate, creating explosive fumes in the tank like gas. the following were actually taken out of my $ 5 guide available at www agua-luna com

Chemically

1. You’ll need a 6inch x 1ft schedule 40 pvc pipe. With pvc cement glue a cap on the bottom and use a screw on cap for the top. Drill a small hole (1/4inch or so) in the side close to the top, screwing in a small copper shut off valve. Place a few feet of stranded (food grade is good) flex hose to the valve and into the air intake of your engine (carburetor or fuel injections).
2. Now crunch up a couple aluminum cans (beer cans, soda cans etc) and drop them into the pvc pipe, along with a couple cups of lye (Red Devil drain opener has lye in it, some Clorox and Drano’s do to).
3. Then simply add water, screw on the top and wait a few minutes.

What happens in simplicity is that aluminum and lye don’t really get along so they battle, and as always the innocent civilians (water H2O) that the most casualties, by giving up its hydrogen and oxygen. This then builds up in the void of the pipe and is ready to be vented into your engine, by opening the valve. You may need to start your engine on gas then switch it off after the hydrogen starts burning.

Electrical is a bit easier then Chemically.

1. Simply take a small solar panel 1.5 amps is what I use ($ 9 at harborfreight.com), connect the 2 wires from the panel +- to 2 conductors (carbon cores of batteries work well, just be careful removing it from the jacket), but any conductive material will work ie. Copper, aluminum, steel, etc.
2. Drop the wires into a water tank (I use 55gal drums), make sure they don’t touch each other.
3. Drill a small hole (1/4inch or so) in the side close to the top, screwing in a small copper shut off valve. Place a few feet of stranded (food grade is good) flex hose to the valve and into the air intake of your engine (carburetor or fuel injections).
4. Then simply add water, screw on the top cap and wait.
After a few hours tiny bubbles will form and rise off one conductor (that’s hydrogen) and even smaller bubbles that just looks like foam will rise off the other (oxygen). I don’t remember which likes the positive and which likes the neg hydrogen or the oxygen.

The third method is more complicated and is what I use for my vehicles. It’s just a modified Joe’s Cell, there’s a step by step DIY guide available to walk you threw the process here www agua-luna com
It also covers the other 2 methods described in more detail.

www agua-luna com
Hope this helped, feel free to contact me personally if you have any questions if you’d like assistance in making your first self sufficient steps, I’m willing to walk you step by step threw the process. I’ve written several how-to DIY guides available at www agua-luna com on the subject. I also offer online and on-site workshops, seminars and internships to help others help the environment.

Will Biofriendly Fuel Cells Power Future Cars?

Article by Peter Verhoeff

At the November 2007 Los Angeles Auto Show, Honda unveiled its new biofriendly FCX Clarity fuel cell vehicle (FCV). Honda plans to lease a limited number of them in the summer of 2008. First developed in 1999, the 2008 model has many improvements, such as a 30% increase in driving range and a 25% increase in power-to-weight ratio. (1)What makes FCVs attractive, compared to gasoline-powered cars, is that fuel cells use hydrogen as a fuel to produce electric power, with pure water as the only byproduct. This makes the FCV a perfect zero-emission vehicle, emitting no greenhouse gases or air pollution whatsoever. Other advantages include reduced dependence on fossil fuels, better energy efficiency and greater design flexibility.

Typically, an FCV has an on-board tank of hydrogen gas, while the needed oxygen is drawn from the surrounding air. In “burning” the hydrogen, the fuel cell produces electricity that powers one or more electric motors to drive the wheels.

Hydrogen is the most abundant chemical element in the universe. Unfortunately, most of it is combined with other elements, as with oxygen to form water, or with carbon to form organic compounds, such as coal, oil and natural gas. Hydrogen can be extracted from water, using a process called electrolysis, but this method uses electricity. As power stations generally use fossil fuels, this makes electrolysis a less than optimum solution.

National Geographic magazine mentions a different method of generating hydrogen. Researchers Logan and Cheng of Penn State University were able to extract 99% of available hydrogen from organic materials using bacteria. This new method of extracting hydrogen is not yet commercially viable, but is promising as it does not require much energy to produce the fuel, giving it a distinct advantage over ethanol and other biofuels. (2)

If the challenges of cost, fuel distribution and delivery can be overcome, fuel cell vehicles promise to become a way to combat energy dependence, fossil fuel depletion, air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions. However, while most vehicles are still gasoline-powered, and will be for some time, it is important to make more efficient use of what fuel we have. This will buy time for the needed research and establishment of better energy solutions.

For that purpose, Biofriendly Corporation has created Green Plus®, a liquid fuel catalyst that causes more complete burning, resulting in fewer harmful emissions and better fuel economy.

Samsung Cell Phones And Fuel Cells: The Next Big Innovation

The Japanese technology firm Toshiba has released a portable, palm-sized Fuel-Cell that is capable of recharging two handheld devices, such as Samsung Cell Phones, in a matter of seconds. This is an innovative idea and a great device for those away from electricity for extended periods of time or anyone in the general public looking for on the move, immediate battery recharge. The idea comes at a perfect time when there is so much innovation in the cell phone world yet no out of the box thinking for related items to cell phones.

The Dynario, as the Toshiba portable fuel-cell is called, works like this: A chemical reaction in which methanol is injected into oxygen makes electricity. With this electricity, The Dynario is then attached to a mobile device (Samsung Cell Phone) via a USB cable and the device is charged within seconds. What an innovation! Apparently Toshiba has been researching fuel-cell technology since the mid 1990′s but hadn’t commercialized anything up to this point in time. The Dynario fuel-cells will be sold directly through the Toshiba website, at least to begin business with the product.

This is such a cool innovation as it comes from a tech company that, rather than building the next smartphone in an already very competitive marketplace, have instead found a way to contribute with zero competition to be seen. This is amazing if you consider that this will likely work on any Samsung Cell Phones and smartphones as well as music players and in all likelihood, soon enough it will be available for laptops and a number of other portable devices.

This is the kind of innovation that makes technology so interesting. As a writer my knowledge of anything scientific is quite minimal so to know that a simple chemical reaction in a palm-sized device can create electricity and thus fuel a couple handheld devices is simply beyond me. But what will this lead to in the near future? Who can know for sure but it will be fun to wait and see. While reports from a few decades ago hoped for floating cars and the like, I think we can all still be very pleased with the technological progress that has been made in the last twenty years. And the way things are moving it appears as though it will only continue to get better and better. My bold prediction for the near future is a phone that can recharge via wireless internet. Sounds far-fetched, but we’ll see. You heard it here first!

Water Fuel Cells – Before You Buy, Read This

What if water fuel cells were the future of cars? What if we could really get rid of gasoline and oil dependence through this amazing technology, and what if we could ask our cars to run solely on water? It would change everything.

Water fuel cells involve a high level technology that encourages the electricity needed to power cars to be conducted by water rather than gas. It’s a simplistic way of explaining it, but the water that would replace the gas could become the future of car technology if we put our resources into developing it.

In water fuel cells, the water would basically “combust” to become hydrogen and oxygen. The car’s engine would burn through the hydrogen and incur the basic energy that we see from gasoline and diesel powered engines today. The concept was originally invented by Stanley Allen Meyer, but the totality of his principle was eventually rejected by scientific communities.

Instead of spending time developing water fuel cells, the scientific community spent its energy discrediting Meyer and his claim. Some projected that there was actually a conspiracy theory afoot, as oil fields in Texas would have been affected as would our international relations with the Middle East. There are many theories, none of which have been proven.

Water fuel cells are gaining attention once again as we realize now that our oil dependence is a serious problem. We need to have an alternative fuel source that will power our cars, and maybe even some day, heat our homes. The science behind this technology is a complex one, and the implications of introducing these cars to the public are rather significant. But with renewed vigor, these cells are now receiving the attention that they deserve.

If we could manufacture water fuel cells, we would reduce our oil dependency by an approximated 60% to 90%, depending on applied usage. This means that we would be able to withdraw our interest from countries that aren’t happy with us and we could become a much more self sustained country.

In the overall picture, water fuel cells could literally save not only our society but our planet as well. To date smog, ground level ozone, and water pollution caused by roadway runoff is one of the most serious planet health issues that we face today. Removing the destructive nature of gas powered vehicles would cut ground level ozone production immensely, as this is the major source of this deadly pollutant.

The price of fuel cells has been too high for more common uses

Article by Marymn

Ecological concerns about the collision of vestige petroleum based power creation, as well as economic, healthiness, and ecological questions about production of new communication lines, is creating a famine of electric power generation and restrictive broadcast capacities. These concerns have amplified the attention in electrical power construction from another energy sources, such as wind electric turbine, solar electric panels and fuel cells. In each case, power is generated at or close to the site where it is used, and therefore, extended detachment diffusion lines are not mandatory. In general, the cost of electricity can be different depending on its ease of use and the time of use. Wind and solar energy are two significant non-polluting, renewable possessions with great possible for adaptation to electric energy.

Rapid advances in wind turbine and photo-voltaic technologies have condensed the price of electric energy generated by renewable resources and have produced opportunities for using these technologies as either stand alone or grid connected production sources. Wind and solar power may be used in small-scale applications such as residential, as well as large-scale farms. Both of these energy sources have a major disadvantage compared with predictable resources; they are non-dispatch able wind does not blow and sun does not shine unavoidably when electric energy is required. Wind and solar based energy systems need a support source of energy, either through a correlation to the power association, a backup generator, batteries, or fuel cells. Fuel-cell power generation is a different rising technology; it is based on the conversion of hydrogen energy into electric energy through an electro chemical process, which produces DC electricity, heat, and water.

However, the price of fuel cells has been too high for more common uses. The amplified worldwide understanding of the environmental impacts of fossil fuel based Power generation management is accelerating improvement of the fuel cell technology for sparkling, efficient, and quiet operation in a multiplicity of applications. Computers, electric vehicles, and homes, as well as large scale network connected services, are being powered by fuel cells. They are very striking technologies because they oxidize hydrogen and leave nonpolluting byproducts, such as heat, clean water and, if hydrogen is derived from a fuel, carbon dioxide. Futurists envisage power stations where wind or solar energy are used to generate electric energy, which is then used to electrolyze water and produce hydrogen that could be stored and used by fuel cells to generate electric energy when needed, eliminating the need for additional endorsement sources.
