You can’t. Or even if you could it wouldn’t do you any good. You would need high tech manufacturing equipment costing far more than the fuel cell to make one. Just like the blueprints for a V8 engine would not be enough for you to make your own V8 engine. You would need a complete machine shop, and maybe a foundry too, costing FAR more than an engine to make an engine.

Given the tension between world powers such as United States and the world major crude oil producer – Iran, it is indeed probably that we, the consumer will suffer from higher fuel price in the future. Now, people are searching for alternative fuel for cars, and believe it or not, I have actually found a solution to use water as an alternative fuel.

Water, covers more than 70% of the earth’s surface. While it may seems that it is impossible to use water as an alternative fuel, water itself can actually provides enough energy to move a car. Now, people are resorting to use the so-called biofuel and think that it is a new technology. However, do you know that biofuel has existed for more than 5 decades. Some old Fords can actually run on peanut oil, that was few decades ago.

Since the biofuel technology is actually an old-technology few decades ago, it is not strange that water fuel cell actually exists too. Given so much free resources in the world, scientists are not stupid to not to research into using water as an alternative fuel for cars, not to say that the crude oil price is very erratic in times of war.

In the arcane of science, the scientists call the research on converting water into fuel as “The Deuterium Project”. The research has been done for more than 20 years. Even though the project has not reached the most successful target and the scientists are yet to plan to commercialize the method (partly due to the political pressure from some governments that depend on crude oil as sole national income), however, by plainly altering your engine, your engine can actually move on water. These alterations can be easily done and at a low cost indeed. However, the alterations can only provide enough power to run a car, larger vehicles such as van will require some professional knowledge.

In conclusion, using water as an alternative fuel for cars is not a dream at all. It is just that the method has not been exposed because of certain political pressure and imperfection to be commercialized.

Will Biofriendly Fuel Cells Power Future Cars?

At the November 2007 Los Angeles Auto Show, Honda unveiled its new biofriendly FCX Clarity fuel cell vehicle (FCV). Honda plans to lease a limited number of them in the summer of 2008. First developed in 1999, the 2008 model has many improvements, such as a 30% increase in driving range and a 25% increase in power-to-weight ratio. (1)What makes FCVs attractive, compared to gasoline-powered cars, is that fuel cells use hydrogen as a fuel to produce electric power, with pure water as the only byproduct. This makes the FCV a perfect zero-emission vehicle, emitting no greenhouse gases or air pollution whatsoever. Other advantages include reduced dependence on fossil fuels, better energy efficiency and greater design flexibility.

Typically, an FCV has an on-board tank of hydrogen gas, while the needed oxygen is drawn from the surrounding air. In “burning” the hydrogen, the fuel cell produces electricity that powers one or more electric motors to drive the wheels.

Hydrogen is the most abundant chemical element in the universe. Unfortunately, most of it is combined with other elements, as with oxygen to form water, or with carbon to form organic compounds, such as coal, oil and natural gas. Hydrogen can be extracted from water, using a process called electrolysis, but this method uses electricity. As power stations generally use fossil fuels, this makes electrolysis a less than optimum solution.

National Geographic magazine mentions a different method of generating hydrogen. Researchers Logan and Cheng of Penn State University were able to extract 99% of available hydrogen from organic materials using bacteria. This new method of extracting hydrogen is not yet commercially viable, but is promising as it does not require much energy to produce the fuel, giving it a distinct advantage over ethanol and other biofuels. If the challenges of cost, fuel distribution and delivery can be overcome, fuel cell vehicles promise to become a way to combat energy dependence, fossil fuel depletion, air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions. However, while most vehicles are still gasoline-powered, and will be for some time, it is important to make more efficient use of what fuel we have. This will buy time for the needed research and establishment of better energy solutions.

Alternative energy vehicles are quickly becoming more popular among consumers. Soaring fuel prices have triggered a wave of price increases. do you have $ $ $ ? It’ll be expensive!

You’ll need to modify the carburator or fuel injectors to run on hydrogen. You’ll need to modify the timing of the engine, ratarded to about 20*BTDC. You’ll need cooler spark plugs. Your best bet may be finding a self-propel lawnmower, strap a hydro tank to it, and go from there. There are no major engine differences, only fuel delivery differences. Will Hydrogen Cars Replace Hybrid Cars?

Wouldn’t you just know it, just as the Hybrid Car begins to make its presence felt as the saviour of tomorrows motorist (and the world) along comes another young pretender to the throne – The hydrogen fuelled car. Some people say that hydrogen cars will have pure refeshment water on tap. We shall see, in theory it could happen with a Hydrogen Car but they are way behind the Hybrid Car in their development program and forecasting is impossible. Hydrogen cars do however, have the potential to be better cars than Hybrid Cars in several ways so we need to compare their known characteristics.

Hydrogen cars use a chemical reaction rather than a burning process for motive power

Conventional cars burn fossil fuel and Hybrid Cars use smaller amounts of the same fuel to charge their batteries. Hydrogen Cars do not use fossil fuel at all. Instead Hydrogen Cars depend upon a chemical reaction between Hydrogen and Oxygen that produces a lot of energy plus pure water residue – a completely pollution free process. Hence the earlier reference to water on tap in Hydrogen cars. It is not possible for Hybrid Cars to achieve the same thing without breaking the Laws of Chemistry.

The reaction process in Hydrogen Cars produces up to three times the energy output from the equivalent gasoline based process in conventional and hybrid cars.

Hydrogen fuel burns both hotter and faster than fossil based fuel and is therefore much more efficient. In theory therefore it should be possible to design Hydrogen Cars that canreach incredible speeds with as yet unrealised acceleration compared to Hybrid Cars. There is simply no way that Hybid Cars, dependent as they are (in all their forms) on battery power, will be able to compete on this level.

The question arises “Is the hydrogen car concept for real?

Many people believe that Hybrid Cars reflect reality much more than Hydrogen Cars do. Hybrid Cars exist on our roads now and have already cut pollution emmissions by some 30% to 50%. Why then do we need to indulge in a possible flight of fancy such as the Hydrogen Car by investing vast sums of money to try to achieve the impossible?

The Hydrogen used in Hydrogen Cars is defined as a fuel carrier. It is not considered to be a fuel source in itself.

Indeed, it is hoped by some proponents of this type of fuel process, that in the future it will be possible to produce hydrogen with the use of such sources as wind power and other renewable energy sources.That means that hydrogen has to be produced from other sources. And people are hoping that hydrogen will be able to be produced from things such as wind power or other types of renewable sources. Right now, it looks like all we have is natural gas. That is the most efficient way to get hydrogen. And if that’s the case, then there’s no need to make hydrogen cars. Hybrid cars already cut down on how much gas people use. Who needs hydrogen cars that may end up costing us more in natural gas?

It will be hard create a lot of stations to fuel hydrogen cars

People are saying there is an overwhelming amount of challenges when it comes to creating the multitudes of hydrogen fueling stations that would be needed if millions of people suddenly started owning hydrogen cars. Hybrid cars use gas. And we already have gas stations.

But president Bush has made it clear that he wants hydrogen cars to be on the roads in significant numbers by the year 2020. So it seems that those who oppose hydrogen cars might just have to hold their breath and see if hydrogen cars actually live up to the lofty promises people associate with them. If they don’t live up to their promises, people will probably start running back to hybrid cars in droves. And that’s not too bad. Hybrid cars or hydrogen cars, one of them is going to get us to cleaner air.
