Love, the Bus is a cross-country charity project incepted by Maine natives Tyler Dunham, Seth Brown and Corey McLean — a trio with a mission to bring their youthful energy and creativity to local organizations across the nation.

Said Kelsey Aroian of the love Bus crew, “We’ve been touring the country on a huge ‘adventure for good,’ spreading a message of optimism and environmental sustainability. We’re proud to spread the good word about alternative fuels on our journey.”

Fueling their mission is the love, the Bus bus, itself — a behemoth in green powered by none other than waste veggie oil (WVO) — and the occasional reserve of biodiesel, which is necessary to heat up the team’s WVO system. Propel was happy to host the bus at our Wilmington, CA, clean Fuel Point when it rolled through Southern CA yesterday.

“we received our first batch of biodiesel in California from Propel Fuels and heard about their fantastic CleanDrive program.  We’re excited to join with them in their efforts toward cleaner fuels and a healthier planet!” said Kelsey.

Along their travels, the love, the Bus team has been documenting their journey through daily video updates that viewers can interact with online. every week, the group completes a new challenge to creatively fund local organizations near where that challenge is completed. all of their challenges, most of the money they distribute, and their general tour road map, is dictated by viewers and fans.

Alternative Energy – Available and Affordable

Why are more and more homeowners turning their interest towards the idea of solar panels and often adding wind turbines as well?

In this time of economic insecurity people are looking to become self-sufficient, people who have solar energy don’t worry about when the next blackout hits. Second or maybe first is saving money and then there is the reason that sits high with many and that is taking that step towards a green planet.

Electricity From the Wind

When the wind blows the blades spin the wind turbine, which in turn makes electricity. A small windmill won’t run the whole house but it can be hooked into the electric panel for the house as a power source so it uses less from the power companies.

The giant windmills seen along highways are referred to as “wind farms” for harvesting the wind. They are providing a new source for jobs and bringing needed power to our cities.

Small homemade windmills are being used on farms and backyards and a few roofs of homes in mostly rural areas. Placing a wind turbine or generator on the roof is not recommended due to weight-bearing factors. Height is important for getting a steady wind current. Be prepared to build a tall sturdy tower for your wind turbines.

Likewise with the discovery of the photovoltaic effect, which is the production of electricity from the sun, solar panels have only gotten more efficient at using the sun’s power that it is another source of energy to provide the home’s power needs. With enough solar panels to generate power to the home often there is an excess that the power company has to pay the homeowner for the electricity. Now that sounds nice.

Governments and Alternative Energy

Apparently, the satellites that orbit the earth operate solely from solar cells as well as buoys, lighthouses and warning signs on the highway. Surprisingly, many countries have been using solar energy for more than 50 years.

On Sept. 7, 2011, the Department of Energy issued a $340 million loan guarantee to SolarCity and U.S. Renewables Group Renewable Finance and Bank of America Merrill Lynch’s $1 billion SolarStrong project, which will put solar on the homes for service members living on base across all branches of the U.S. military.

Under the project, 160,000 homes on military bases will have solar systems under the SolarStrong project, which will likely be the largest residential project in the world.

Available and Affordable?

Does this mean that we are moving forward to having on every roof in the U.S. and the world?

That will depend on the the ability of homeowners to afford the cost of professional installation which can run anywhere from $6,000 to $20,000 according to the home’s need and size.

An alternative is DIY method, buying online manuals with step by step video instructions for building your own solar panels and wind turbines. The money it costs plus the materials is a fraction of what professional installers are charging. Besides it is a great project that sends a message to friends and family that this homeowner wants a green planet.

According to experts, a professionally installed solar system will last for 20 years or more and the Do It Yourself panels last about 6 to 8. With extra consideration given to protecting the panels from the elements the homemade ones can last even longer.

This is a subject that continues to bring hope for a country so dependent on non-renewable sources like oil, coal and natural gas.

Here we have a renewable resource, call it Infinite Energy, where the sun keeps on shining and the wind is still blowing over mountains and down through the valley floor.

Benefits of Using Alternative Energy Sources

Did you know that alternative energy sources such as water, wind and sunlight offer an endless supply of resources. Because these methods also do not have a negative impact upon the environment, using them becomes even more preferable because they help to reduce pollution. It is important to think about issues like these in our modern lives. There are better ways to continue using all the technology that we have created while still working to keep our ecosystem in-tact.

It is becoming even more affordable to use alternative energy sources, as the equipment that is needed to make it work becomes more available, overcoming one of the biggest obstacles standing in the way of using cleaner energy. Did you know that you can even take advantage of tax incentives from the government that will give you cash back on your investment into alternative energy sources?

It is important to use these energy sources prudently, as they can be used to power just about anything in our lives. The renewable technologies for alternative energy today are able to meet all of our electricity demands. We all use and rely on a lot of electricity on a daily basis as a means of powering all of the gadgets that we use every day. The best way to meet the demand of consumers is to utilize alternative energy sources to power all the technology that is so prevalent in our daily lives.

Using these alternative sources also helps to save us money by using renewable energy, which costs less in the long run, and the planet by using safer, cleaner energy. You will see your power bills drop due to the lack of power grid energy that you need to use to power your home. However, even with all the options, alternative energy might not be enough to power everything in your home. But you could at least set up a back-up system until the energy is renewed and available.

You can just switch from your alternative energy source back to the electric source you are using at the moment. However, some homes might not ever use all the energy they generate and will end up with a surplus of unused energy. Some people use the amount of energy they need and then sell the excess energy to the power company to make extra money. Wouldn’t it be better to get a check from the power company than it would be to have to write them one?

All the money that you save on your energy bill can be used to purchase lots of other things. Economic studies show that the cost of gas and food are rising on almost a daily basis. Experts believe that this will continue for awhile in the coming months and years. You would really be doing your household budget a favor by saving money on your utility bill.

The energy that we use today is coming more and more from alternative energy sources as our demands for clean energy increase. Because of rising costs and a depletion of our limited supply of fossil fuels it is becoming more and more important to use alternative resources. There might be a different type of energy source that is ideal to where you live in the world. However, you can rest easy knowing that there are lots of researchers looking into new and unique alternative energy sources that will help us to meet the demands of our high-tech lifestyle.

My Alternative Energy Sources (Solar Energy)

Exactly what is an Alternative Energy Source? Well put simply, an Alternative Energy Source is a source of energy that is renewable and does not use fossil type energy sources that emit pollinates back into our atmosphere. It is also considered as a fuel source or energy source that is free. Examples of sources of energy that are not free are:

Oil
Coal
Natural Gas

These energy sources are often refereed to as Fossil Fuels meaning that they have been formed in the Earth’s ground system over millions of years. These energy sources are not renewable (since it takes millions of years for them to form), they are expensive to use and they give off harmful emissions during there use. In recent years the United States as well as other countries around the world have started using Nuclear Power to generate electricity, but is this method really any safer or more cost efficient than other methods? What do we do with the plutonium rods that are used up in a reactor? These plutonium rods emit harmful radiation for years after they are removed from a reactors core and must be stored in under ground caverns forever to keep from being harmful to society.

So what is a true Alternative Energy Source? A true source of alternative energy is the following:

Solar Power
Wind Power
Magnetic Power

These forms of energy are free, they are renewable and they are abundant. Let’s take a look at each one of these in more detail.

Solar Energy:

Just what is Solar Energy anyway? Solar Energy is energy that is created by sunlight more, specifically radiant light waves. These light waves produce heat and light and are absorbed by the Earths land surface and water surface. About 30% of this is reflected back into the atmosphere. Have you ever stood next to a glass window on a bright sunny day and felt the warmth that is radiated by the glass? This is a form of Solar Energy, the glass absorbs and collects the heat from the sunlight although not very efficient, the glass is a collector for this heat. Technology today has created ways of collecting this Energy that allow us to use it in our Homes and Business as:

Solar Heating
Solar Water Heating
Solar Electricity

How do we do this? By what is known as Solar Collector Panels. These panels are made from a material that absorbs the energy from the sunlight and transfers it either as heat that we can use to heat our homes, heat water for hot water or with the use of storage cells as electricity for our homes. As most of us experience sunlight for 8-12 hours per day (when it is not cloudy) this is an excellent source of an Alternative Energy Source.

These solar panels are positioned on your home (usually the roof) to collect the most sunlight available during the majority of daylight hours. This is known as Direct Solar Energy as we are capturing the sunlight to do immediate work, warm your home warm your water or create electricity. The most frequently utilized method of generating solar power is through photovoltaic cells or solar panels. Photovoltaics, or solar cells as they are sometimes called, are manufactured from a material called silicon. Following a chemical process, the photovoltaic cells are created and can then turn the photons from the sunlight into energy.

The type of energy generated via a photovoltaic cell or cells can be stored in batteries and then used to power everything from radios, calculators, toys, solar lights, battery chargers, solar roof vent fans, water fountains, solar powered water pumps and generators and more!

Advantages of Solar Energy

Solar energy itself is free
Pollution-free way of providing power
Renewable energy source
Operates silently
Solar energy cells or panels are practically maintenance free and will last a long time
Easy installation
Saves money over time on electricity costs

As you can see Solar Power is one form of an Alternative Energy Source that we can use for generations to come. It is free, it is renewable and most importantly it does not harm our Earths atmosphere. I

In my next article we will take a look at Wind Power as an Alternative Energy Source.

Increasing Alternative Energy

Alternative energy is energy that is produced without consuming a product. The sun is dying slowly, but because it has a shelf life of several million years we can yet ignore this.

Increasing energy alternatives

Renewable energy is in vogue. Given the high oil prices, growing energy demand in Asia and the doubts about the security of energy supplies have contributed – the most recent example is the dispute between Russia and Ukraine over gas supplies.

A comprehensive source of energy needs in the Americas only by wind, solar and hydroelectric power is difficult to imagine, but may in the not too distant future a reality. A key criterion is the constructive research, especially by the Federal Government.

A series of regulations, policies and laws around the world support the promotion of research and development of new energy sources. The general discussion is closely related to the global environment and the associated climate debate, since the use of fossil fuels, in addition to their general scarcity in most cases, with a significant impact on the environment goes hand in hand.

A similar behavior within three years, came to New Energy Fund. The Swiss Bank Sarasin has advised the funds invested in traditional energy companies like BP and Royal Dutch Shell, which has more in addition to its traditional areas of business pillars in the field of renewable energy.

The Solar energy is playing a greater role in power generation. This witness projects from international companies who want to use solar energy in North Africa through the sale of solar energy systems energy scale y.

Every second, about 1,000 tons of greenhouse gases released, and make our planet to create more. The Solar energy can help reduce the amount of greenhouse gases produced in the world significantly.

The special thing about these forms of energy can also be combined. A similar type of windmill can be placed underwater ocean current tap or can be generated with the chimney of the solar power plant.

Here, the air is heated with a large glass roof and is discharged through a chimney on top. The chimney effect provides sufficient wind speeds to operate wind turbines in the chimney.

Older techniques, such as electricity from the power of water, have been nearly 100 years, a source of environmentally friendly energy. Wind power, once used for the operation of the mills and pumping systems, with growing knowledge and finer and more robust technology and more efficient.

Apart from the use of alternative energies, of course, there is the possibility of using the “current” of energy efficiency. There is always a way, the primary energy consumption, with several simple solutions for improvement.

This topic is not an integral part of this site, but everyone should address issues such as isolation lamps or energy saving. Additional savings potential lies in a comparison of energy costs is quite worthwhile.

Alternative energies are enjoying today’s society, taking into account all the negative environmental effects especially high priority.

No alternative energy of all the processes of nuclear fission and nuclear fusion are calculated. The recovery of energy from atomic nuclei are made of non-renewable resources on earth and leave residues that can fit into any natural cycle.

Alternative Energy – The Advantages

The continued use of fossil fuels has come under a lot of scrutiny in recent times. We keep hearing about alternative energy and how they should be used in lieu of fossil fuels. Have you entertained this thought at all? Do you wonder what the advantages of using alternative energy are and how you can benefit from it?

I will answer those questions for you, but first, let us be clear about what alternative or renewable energy is. Alternative energy is the term used for energy sources other than fossil fuels. Although not all alternative sources of energy are renewable, for our discussion purposes, we will limit ourselves to renewable energy resources.

Renewable sources of energy are those that cannot be depleted and therefore, will never run out. Examples of these are sun, wind, running water, tide, wave, and still many others. To illustrate this point, imagine using wind power to generate electricity for your home. The wind is always in the atmosphere, blowing in your surroundings. Its strength and speed may not always be the same, but you can be assured that your use of this energy now will not diminish your supply of wind in the future.

In fact, that is one very obvious advantage of using alternative or renewable energy. Unlike fossil fuels where the supply of which is in rapid decline, we will never have to worry about running out of renewable energy. That isn’t going to happen.

Another very important advantage of using alternative energy is its contribution to environmental well-being. The burning of fossil fuels, a process required in converting them into a consumable energy, pollutes the environment in a non-repairable manner. Global warming, or the warming up of the earth due to enhanced emission of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, is a very prevalent problem the whole world is facing. And fossil fuels are a major contributor to this environmental concern.

On the other hand, the use of renewable energy does not bring forth an enhanced emission of greenhouse gases because burning is no longer required for their use. Also, alternative energy sources such as wind power, solar power, hydro energy, tidal power, and wave energy are clean and unpolluted. So, aside from not adding to the pollution caused by enhanced greenhouse gases, these types of alternative energy do not contribute to other forms of environmental degradation. Whatever impact the use of renewable energy entails, it is very minimal compared to the consequences of using fossil fuels.

Moreover, the use of alternative energy will benefit the local economy because we will no longer need to import fossil fuels to generate electricity. Since electricity will now be generated locally, it will also mean more job opportunities for the locals.

Using alternative energy can sometimes require substantial capital investment, but in the long run, it will undoubtedly be more cost-efficient for the economy or the investor, especially since the supply is practically free. And more importantly, it will be of the very least cost to the environment.

Alternative Energy Information – Green Energy

The largest amount of energy used in the world today is provided by fossil fuels, these fuels are getting harder to acquire and are costing more and more each day which is then passed on to the consumer. Renewable alternative energy sources are readily available but require a huge investment by the power supplies and governments of the world. Alternative energy information is available in a lot of places on the internet and is sometimes referred to as green energy. It is well within the capability of the average house holder to makes use of this source without a massive investment on their part.

Here are just a few of these resources that you can utilise and play your part in providing a cleaner environment.

Solar Panels – used to provide electricity to charge battery banks which you can later tap into and run some if not all of your electrical appliances in the home.
Solar Collectors – will provide heat to give you your domestic hot water and heat swimming pools if you are fortunate to have one.
Wind Turbines – another source of electricity again to help power the home, also referred to as home energy products.
Magnet Generators – new boy on the block just recently, although the theory has been around for a long time.

All of these resources are referred to as renewable energy because they are readily available and do not require us to contaminate the planet and unlike fossil fuels do not require massive amounts of money and damage to the planet to obtain them. If we carry on using fossil fuels at the rate we are doing (this is increasing year upon year) then at the end of the day we will not have anything at all to leave to our children and their children.

Brief description of each one.

Solar panels are also called photovoltaic cells; these convert the sun’s rays into electricity which is then used to charge up a bank of batteries. The power then stored in the batteries can be called on to operate lighting and power within the home.

Home wind energy products, wind turbines, windmills to use other terminologies convert the energy in the wind to turn a generator providing electricity which again can used to charge battery banks and dependent on the type of generator can provide power direct into the home. Another usage is to obtain water from possible a well using windmill driven pump.

Solar collectors also referred to as solar hot water systems, we are again using the power of the sun to heat water for our domestic system or heat the pool. Approximately 30% of your electric bills is for heating your domestic water.

A magnet generator is a machine which will provide us again with electricity and again can be used to power the home.

If you stop to consider for a moment just what you use electricity for, you will be amazed on how many things we take for granted that are electrically driven. If you then look at your energy bill and can visualise how just a small saving of 50 – 80% of that bill will affect you, you will also realise how much fossil fuels can be saved, if everyone took the same course of action we would then be on the road to reducing the damage to our planet by a massive amount. What a brilliant legacy for our children and future generations. Hopefully I have helped you understand a little more about alternative energy/green energy.

Types Of Alternative Energy Sources

As traditional energy resources become more scare and more expensive, many are becoming interested in alternative energy sources. This is understandable, as these developing technologies have the potential to revolutionize may aspects of our daily lives. This topic deserves a bit of further discussion and exploration.

There are many benefits to things of this nature. One of the most promising is that most of them are pollution-free. This means that they do not produce harmful wastes that may negatively effect the environment. This would allow much more liberal, and safe, use of a particular piece of technology.

Another important benefit is that many new technologies tap into what is known as renewable resources. This means that the sources of power associated with a particular form is constantly abundant or consistently replenished. This can be infinitely more valuable than other forms which may run out or are very slow to be replenished.

Wind power is a viable method of fueling many of our needs. The technology utilizes wind to turn the blades of wind turbines. The turning of these turbine blades would be converted into a type of electrical current by a type of generator. There is no pollution or chemical reactions involved, meaning no harmful bi-products. Farms can still operated around turbines, and they can be built offshore for even more utilization.

Solar power if also a great option. By utilizing the rays of the sun, one can accomplish a wide variety of tasks, including heating, cooking, electricity production, and even the desalination of salt water from the sea. This method is extremely practical, of course, as long as the sun provides the Earth with energy. Cloudy days and a lack of the sun at night do have the potential to limit its usefulness.

Hydroelectric power is also a rapidly expanding area of study. This utilizes dammed water to push a water turbine and power a generator, creating electricity. Other methods utilize the kinetic energy of non-dammed water, such as the tidal forces of the ocean, as a source of power. This water can be used consistently, with no harmful wastes, and the water involved can always be re-used for various purposes.

Geothermal power is a lesser-known potential resource, but it is very exciting in it’s development. It refers to the utilization of the heat that is present beneath the crust of the Earth. Geothermal power plants are typically small and have little effect on the landscape. They are also relatively self-sufficient in nature.

With so many worries about our future sources of power, alternative energy sources are quickly gaining in popularity. Research is developing at a rapid pace. The benefits are numerous and the downsides are relatively small and much more manageable compared to other methods of powering our lives. As time goes on, it is very likely that these power sources, in their many forms, will be powering our homes, our cars, and essentially any other need we may have. There are many options, however, only time will tell as to which will become the most efficient and viable long term option.

The Global Solar Power Alternative Energy Bubble Sure to Burst Big

We are told here in the United States that we need to follow Europe’s lead and become an alternative energy shining city on the Hill. And because that sounds like such a great idea from the politically correct crowd, the Democrats have done everything they can to destroy our energy infrastructure, and raise the cost of energy in order to see that the alternative energy industry can’t compete in the real world.

It is amazing to me that President Obama has tried to do so much of what has utterly failed in Europe. He’s happily pushed us closer towards socialism, because that’s what Europe was doing, although now with their austerity programs, they are moving closer towards capitalism, because their way didn’t work. Isn’t it interesting that we were following their old way which failed, rather than what we are good at, and that’s capitalism.

Giving subsidies away for alternative energy is not the way to help us towards a cleaner future.

Did you know that when the cap and trade program started in Europe it was filled with fraud, cheating, and made instant millionaires out of manipulators? And did you know that recently it was shut down because of theft? Why are we following Europe’s mistakes? Is it because too many of the Democrats have fallen in love with the theories of socialism? There are far too many examples of silly things that Europe has done in the name of alternative energy, and we are learning their lessons, we are following them into the same ruts, mud holes, and towards the same cliffs.

In fact there was a very interesting article in Knowledge-AT-Wharton not long ago titled; “Solar Power Incentives in France: Subsidization without ‘Planification’?” – the article was published on January 26, 2011 and written by Benjamin Andrew, Mario de Barros, and Seth Kisch, members of the Lauder Class of 2012. The article made reference to the massive subsidies France is giving out for solar power, that in a country that has nearly 80% of its electricity coming from Nuclear Power.

Now then, consider this; these subsidies cause more purchases and drive up costs due to supply and demand economics globally. And also consider that we don’t make solar cells in this nation, and the little manufacturing of solar cells that we do produce, is nothing compared to those they make in Japan, China, and Germany. When we subsidize this industry, we are really subsidizing those other nations, and I’d really like to know how that can provide over 4 million jobs in the alternative energy sector.

All I see is sticking it to the middle class family who is going to see their electricity bills triple due to all the extra regulation being enforced onto the fossil fuel industry by the EPA, and God help us when Cap and Trade comes along. American needs to get back to doing what it does best, and there is no way to do that following a socialist agenda.

(Open Letter)

“Mr. President,

Won’t you please resign, and do what you promised; that is do what’s best for the American people?

Indeed, I am truly sorry that things didn’t work out, I am sorry that you couldn’t live up to your promises, your speeches, or your eloquent Teleprompter readings. But since you are a failed president, you should do the right thing and step down, and you should start that transition immediately. After all, isn’t that what you told the Egyptian president who was also a failed leader? You can’t have it both ways, you see, Mr. president if you live in hypocrisy, no one is going to listen to what you have to say, and at that point you are unfit to lead.

It’s not good or bad, it’s not an emotional issue, it’s just a fact, it’s time for you to go.

Please consider all this.”

Using Alternative Energy Sources

There is a growing apprehension about the looming energy crisis. Every government in the world is looking for ways to lessen dependence on fossil fuel and has shifted focus to alternative energy sources. Concerned groups and individuals have joined global efforts in increasing public awareness about the need to conserve energy and preserve natural resources.

So what has led to this energy crisis? There is no one answer because the cause is a series of misuse and abuse of the Earth’s resources. And the problem does not stop with the lack of energy. Rather, it permeates all aspects of planetary life.

To meet the growing needs of the ever-increasing population, plants and industries had to be built. However, modernization of industries demand exceedingly large amounts of energy while the Earth’s traditional sources of energy, coal and oil, are dwindling. Compounding the situation is the non-stop emission of toxic gases by factories and even by man himself in his ordinary daily activities. Those gases pollute the air and contribute to global warming, making the planet unsafe for man to live in.

Actually, energy crisis is just a component of the global problem of a sick and perhaps dying planet. Nonetheless, the solutions to the energy crisis, specifically the use of renewable energy sources, can check the further degradation of the planet which, coupled with the efforts to restore many of the natural resources that will hopefully nurse the planet back to health, can give us all a brighter future.

Here are some ways the use of alternative energy sources can avert energy crisis and help in the wellness efforts for Mother Earth:

1. Less dependence on oil and coal. Present supply from renewable energy sources contribute about 18% of global energy consumption. What many independent groups are proposing is 100% supply of energy coming from alternative sources, meaning fossil fuels and nuclear power will not be used. And this is very much possible considering the long-term potentials of the renewable energy from sunlight, wind, water, tides, and geothermal heat. Some scientists are already proving that their respective countries can soon power themselves completely by renewable energy.

2. Minimal to zero emission of toxic gases. A major benefit to using alternative energy sources is the reduction in carbon dioxide emissions and many other pollutants. Solar energy panels and wind turbines do not have any emissions. This not only provides clean air for humans to breathe but also stops any additional contributory load to global warming.

3. Minimal production of waste products. The technologies used in harnessing renewable energy create very little waste materials. In fact, there is even a renewable energy source, biomass, which makes use of waste products in generating power. This is a two-faced solution that responds to the problems of energy supply and waste disposal.

4. Preservation of natural resources. Less dependence on fossil fuels also means there would be less need to strip-mine wide areas for coal and oil sands. There will no longer be oil spills that pollute the seas and kill birds and marine life.

As viable as alternative energy sources are, it would still take some time before the world can be weaned from dependence on fossil fuels. For the time being, while the infrastructures for renewable energy sources are being built, the most that we can do to help forestall the energy crisis is to reduce the total requirements for energy.
