Is it safe to use hydrogen peroxide on my cat?
My cat has acne on his chin and I hear that hydrogen peroxide helps. Is it safe to use hydrogen peroxide on my cats lip, even if he licks it off?
Yes, cats have acne… google it.

I had a kitten swallow a watch battery and I called the vet and asked him what I should do and he said to give it a teaspoon of hydrogen peroxide to make it throw up. I gave it to it and the cat did throw up the battery along with everything else in it’s tummy. So if you can give a cat that much hydrogen peroxide orally I can see where putting a little on it’s lip would harm it? BTW I never seen a cat with acme before?

Ruth asks…
Is it okay to use hydrogen peroxide as a mouth rinse for a period of time?
Is it safe to use hydrogen peroxide as a mouth rinse/teeth whitener daily for about two weeks? Do I risk damaging my teeth or gums? Are there dangers if a small amount is swallowed?
admin answers:
Peroxide is ok as a mouth rinse, just don’t swallow it. My dentist has recomended this for years for healthy gums. Also had me brushing with a baking soda/peroxide mixture. This reversed my bleeding gums, and he says kept me from having to have many treatments if it had evolved into gum disease. Also said to pour peroxide on my toothbrush once a week to kill bacteria and germs on it !

Betty asks…
What should you do if you have already uses hydrogen peroxide on a surface wound on your dog?

Hydrogen peroxide should only be used once for an initial clean and then rinsed with water … But continued use of hydrogen peroxide actually inhibits healing so try not to use too much …

William asks…
Can I use hydrogen peroxide to wash colored cloth diapers?
I’m having trouble getting the poopy stains out (sorry, it’s gross I know). I would try oxy clean, but I’m afraid it’ll irritate my babys behind – but from what I understand, hydrogen peroxide is basically the active ingredient in it. Can I use it in the bleach cup of the washer without it bleaching the colored diapers? Thanks!
admin answers:
Wouldn’t peroxide lighten your cloth diapers? Because that’s what peroxide does. You would have to be extremely careful about your quantity, and I wouldn’t know what to advise you to do, as far as mixture and appropriate “dosage.”
You can try a little regular old bleach, as long as you do an extra rinse or two. You could try a chlorine-free bleach that is gentler on clothes and baby. You could try simply hanging them in the sun (cheapest and easiest!).
This is a problem I never get with my cloth diapers, so I’m not sure why you are getting it. You should not leave your diapers more than a couple of days. If you are letting them sit for longer than that, you should soak them first.
What temp are you washing on? You may want to do a cold rinse, then wash on hot water with detergent.

Nancy asks…
How many uses does hydrogen peroxide have?
admin answers:
It is used as a cleaning agent at a strength of 35%, also termed food grade. It is used as an oxygen producer as rocket fuel when combined with liquid hydrogen. Some use it as mouthwash at drug store strength. It can bleach hair. Probably a lot of additional uses.
