If everybody was driving hydrogen powered cars would that mean more rainfall ?
and with more rainfall would that mean that there would be more floods iin the midwest and other places this is assuming that all transport vehicicals( cars, semis, planes and all that) were running on hydrogen power .
admin answers:
No.

Chris asks…
How are hydrogen cars any better?
So my question is that current fossil fueled cars are producing Carbon dioxide (the 2nd most common “greenhouse gas”) right? Well Hydrogen cars produce water vapor (the most common “greenhouse gas) so besides the unlimited fuel source, isn’t this going to make the problem worse if Hydrogen cars become mainstream (assuming global warming is indeed true)?
Just a thought….

It takes 3x more energy to get hydrogen. Except that iceland is investing into clean geothermal energy that would mass produce hydrogen. Nuclear energy isnt clean, around nuclear plants is still a lot of radiation. You already need fuel cells if you want to use hydrogen, so its better to use something else, like direct ethanol fuel cells. You can get 2x to 4x more energy than it takes to create ethanol.
Hydrogen isnt unlimited fuel source. Nothing is unlimited. Unless you have trillions and trillions of planets with lots of hydrogen and even then they are limited cause we have no idea if there is an unlimited number of planets. Even sun is limited, we have seen stars exploding (supernova). For hydrogen it takes so much energy to get it that its now classified the same as batteries – energy storing.
If you use hydrogen in an internal combustion engine, then there is no water vapor. Its fuel cells that make vapor and heat. Now you have to count that electric engines are 90% efficient compared with internal combustion engines that are only 25% efficient. So with such a large efficiency, less fuel can be used and at the end water vapor would pose no risk at all. Its not a greenhouse gas, people are worried if fogs would become more often. Sun actually vaporises far more water than all of the cars on fuel cells ever do. Where do they think rain comes from?
And global warming is very possible. All those gases we release trap the heat inside earth and then particulates from pollution reflect sun rays and that can make winters colder. Many people dont believe in global warming cause they dont listen to details. They think that the words like global cooling or climate change are another terms in case if global warming never happens. Didnt they warn us that cell phones are harmful? Now scientists say that they arent strong enough to cause any serious injury. Saying that global warming isnt true, is the same as saying that cell phones arent harmful cause you still havent got a tumor from them.

Paul asks…
Will Hydrogen cars have a manual gears?
Ive heard that these new Hydrogen cars are soon to come out and take the market by storm. Will they have manual gearboxes like petrol cars? Electric cars don’t.
admin answers:
They are likely to have a combination of CVT automatic transmission combined with a switched pole motor which will allow varied amount of torque to be produced and also allow for regenerative braking using the motor as an alternator so charging an internal accumulator,
So allowing for losses the Hydrogen “reacted” in the vessel of the CELL will produce electricity which will be stored in the accumulator which via microprocessor control will be fed to the traction motor which with a combined CVT will make the most of the available power to turn the wheels. Probably one per wheel eventually. Releasing the accelerator pedal will cut the supply of hydrogen to the cell so reducing it’s output and allow the vehicle to roll and under it’s own momentum. Then under braking/ retardation the motors are switched to generate so absorbing the mechanical power and converting it into electricity which is fed back into the accumulator so providing power for that instant burst until such time as the cell could be brought back up to full output.

Ken asks…
Are there any hydrogen powered cars on the market?
If yes what are they? What about natural gas powered cars, where do you refill them? Are hydrogen and fuel cell cars the same thing?
admin answers:
The hydrogen powered cars “released” in California are not “on the market.” Honda released just 200 of them in the Los Angeles (where there are 3 fueling stations) area as a test. They will release the cars “for the market” first in Japan.
Hydrogen powered and fuel cell cars are NOT the same thing. All fuel celled cars use hydrogen as a fuel. Not all hydrogen powered cars use fuel cells an an “engine.” Hydrogen also works in international combustion engines (with some modifications).
Natural Gas powered cars have not been released for the “general market.” They are still being tested by power company and local government fleets and are filled up at government owned refueling stations.

Lisa asks…
Is the hydrogen used in hydrogen cars stable? If it comes in contact with oxygen will it just turn into water?
I know the hydrogen combines with air in the fuel cell, and the byproduct is water, but what if it spilled, would it combine with air and turn into water? What keeps it stable?
I know the hydrogen combines with air in the fuel cell, and the byproduct is water, but what if it spilled, would it combine with air and turn into water? What keeps it stable?
And as the other dude answered below, i think he is referring to combustion with hydrogen, i am talking about a fuel cell. There is no combustion, no flame.
admin answers:
Hydrogen is very unstable. It will combine with many elements. I made hydrogen and oxygen by using electrolysis. Set up the experiment wrong and they both came out in the same container, where they just combined and formed water droplets on the top of the container. No fire, no explosion, just water.

George asks…
Why do hydrogen cars need special fueling stations?
What prevents them being made to just take oxygen from air and hydrogen from sugar and/or alcohol?
I didn’t say anything about converting to pure hydrogen. I meant something like how cytochrome c oxidase works.
admin answers:
Guess if you are not using pure hydrogen as fuel then it isn’t a hydrogen car…maybe a sugar car? Or an ethanol powered car?
When people talk about a hydrogen powered car they mean one where the chemical energy is stored in the gas Hydrogen.
