Do you think investing in ngv technology is a good idea?
I have read about the Honda but I would not know how to invest in the technology. I have read a little about conversion kits, I find it interesting but wonder if taxation would inhibit growthequivalenty It is equivalent to less than $2 a gallon of gas from what I have read. I also wonder if electric cars are the way of the future. Any facts or opinions are appreciated. Maybe at least I could convert my Mercury Marauder. ha ha

I don’t think electric cars are the way of the future, you can’t do road trips. Hydrogen is too expensive, natural gas has been around for a while but hasn’t caught on.
Hybrids are good and getting better. Maybe eventually a bio-deisel hybrid? I think that if farmers could somehow keep up with the demand ethanol and bio diesel hybrids would be the best. A bio-diesel smartcar could get well over 100 mpgs. But chrysler never even brought over the diesel version to the US because it was “to slow”……it’s a smart car, the ugliest car on the road and the gas version doesn’t even get that great of mileage. Stupid car really.

Where can I buy an Unbuilt(Self Kit) petrol RC Car?
I want to buy a self kit for a petrol car, all I could find is Nitro or Electric cars but not petrol. Anyone know where I could buy a Petrol? Please Remember it must be a unbuilt self kit.
Thanks

Not in this country. I have had a 5th scale baja 5b and I know HPI and for that matter Kingmotor (makes clones of the baja) do not make kits for 5th scale which is the same as petrol powered cars. Best thing to do is to buy a roller off of ebay or rcuniverse. Sorry, there are no kits made buy anyone you would want to give a dollar to.

Possible to upgrade to Electric Windows and Central Locking on Ford Ka Now?
I’ve bought a second-hand Ford Ka Now 2001 and wondered whether its possible (and how easy it is) to convert to electric windows and central locking.
I’ve seen the universal kits you can buy for both but am a car novice – would it take a mechanic long? Would I need to replace the car door cards or any other parts?
Thanks for the help,
Laura

It will cost a lot of money to convert it and new wiring, you probably looking at a couple of grand to do it.

Jenny asks…
how do you increase the volts being supplied to a d.c. motor from batteries!?
I have been recently been looking into building an electric car. normally the electric car kit is to be used with several 12 volt batteries in sequence to make 144 volts to power the motor. I on the other hand want to use lithium iron batteries (which are really costly) using the same method with the normal car batteries to get better miles. the only problem is that each battery has 3.2 volts. which means to get the required voltage I would normally put them in sequence but for that I would need around fifty and when each battery cost around $450 u.s. it’s very unfordable not to mention the weight over load. that’s why I would like to use something like 10 lithium iron batteries and then have some sort of circuit to increase the 32 volts to 144 volts. sorry for the long question do you have any ideals!
Thanks I for the people who have answered so far, I know a bit about electronics and have some skill in that area so I will take all of your suggestions into account.

Here’s some basic voltage multiplier circuits:

But before going to a lot of trouble for nothing, might want to estimate how much current you’ll need, and consider whether your proposed battery array will be able to deliver.

where can I find a wiring diagram for a aftermarket electric fan for my car?
I have an install kit that came with no instructions?
admin answers:
Go back where you bought it and tell them there are no instructions with it.

John asks…
What kits are good for building your own electric car?
Also what car would you use for the body? I heard that Chevy Malibu’s and Impalas are good. I won’t be using a brand new car (obviously), and it will actually be pretty old.
Also, do you think a solar panel would be a good idea? I know they’re expensive, and the power is minimal, but I don’t care about that. I just care about using less coal-produced electricity. But my main problem is that solar panels can be complicated to install so ideas are appreciated.
Pretty much I don’t want the kit to be too expensive.
Thanks in advance

Good for you, this will be a fun project, one that will save you thousands of dollars in fuel cost. This outfit has kits for sale:

This page has a lot of info on EV conversions:

I know a couple of people who have converted Chevy S-10s. There’s a KTA kit for this, and it’s apparently not too hard.

You should also join the Electric Auto Association. You’ll meet people who have done conversions, and also people like yourself, who are just learning to do it. You’ll get lots of help.

Solar is a good idea. Don’t put it on your car, though, put it on your garage. It can be as cheap or expensive as you want. The cheapest route is to just put up a basic panel, and not worry so much about getting all the electricity you need from it – even if you can only fill half your battery with solar, you will still save significant money.
*
Don’t listen to people who will call you names, or try to pigeonhole you politically. Electric cars are not political. And don’t worry about coal powered power plants. Gasoline cars waste as much energy (mainly electricity) as your EV uses to drive – during the refining process. And if all the waste energy from driving on gasoline could be harnessed, you could drive another couple of electric cars by using it. Overall, gasoline power uses at least five times as much energy as electric cars do, for the same mileage. Nothing tops petroleum for pollution and waste.
*
Plus, coal plants are designed to be baseload. It’s cheap power, so coal plants run at 100% output nearly all the time. Plugging in EVs can’t make them suddenly go to 110%. So coal pollution doesn’t even change – instead, it’s the other types of plants that will run harder.

Where (and what brand) can I buy a decent electric drum kit?
I’m not looking for top market, but not exactly bottom market either. Where can i buy some? Preferably online, because i am a college student and don’t have a car to go pick it up. I hear roland is pretty good. I will be playing metal core, scream and post hardcore music.

Guitar Center

As far as brand, the name Alesis seems to come up a lot. Roland was a close second.

Linda asks…
Hybrid car – powertrain?
Can I buy the powertrain for a hybrid or electric car?
Are there kit cars to make a Ferrari or Cobra style car?
Can a hybrid have two engines, one front, one rear, to make a HOT ROD?
Two answers were very informative.
I liked the Ford/Siemens engine on eBay and the Ferrari replica.
Peugeot coupe? Is that what Columbo drives?
The goal is not fuel efficiency or even practical daily usage. It’s too launch a new sport, like supercharged family sedans launched Nascar.
Thanks to all.
admin answers:
Hybrids have two engines, one is an internal combustion engine and the other is electric. They both usually drive the same power train.
There are some differences in design from manufacturer to manufacturer, Honda puts them both on the same crank shaft and Toyota interfaces them through the transmission. Honda’s is a full time electric AND gas engine while Toyota will alternatively have them both operate at the same time, either one or the other, or none on at all based on the vehicle needs for the conditions of the moment.
Having one drive power the rear and the other the front would be more difficult to manage than having them both drive an all wheel drive train from a single power access point because you would be confronted with making the two motors synchronize their output and electric motors have very different power curves than gas engines.
Generally the drive trains by themselves are not out there yet except used and maybe from a junk dealer who has a wreck.
Yes there are kit cars that copy Ferrari and Cobra’s but that is a separate issue and those kits are usually designed for conventional chassis’s.
