Why do you think that all bacteria needs a carbohydrate energy source as part of their nutrient medium?

Actually, there are some bacteria that don’t require a carbohydrate energy source. Some can live nicely when given just amino acids (even just one amino acid) or some other molecule as their source of carbon.

Having said that, carbohydrates are catabolized by glycolysis, and in aerobic conditions, by the citric acid cycle. These pathways can be used by bacteria to produce energy and to produce pretty much every other organic molecule required by the cell.
