Linda asks…
Is it safe to use fatty acids during ketosis as energy source for building muscle by lifting weights?
I know most bodybuilders use carbs to power their way through a workout, i was wondering if an alternative source fat energy during ketosis would work instead.
admin answers:
Yes. Just eat them in the right ratios. Check out the site mercola .com and search for fats or whatever. Also Lyle McDonald has a book called The Ketogenic Diet. It’s the most informative non biased one I have ever seen. Loads of information on how everything works in your system. Http://www.bodyrecomposition.com/the-ketogenic-diet
Also its a good idea to eat carbs only directly after a workout since your blood sugar will be low and your body will turn muscle into glucose to raise your blood sugar. That’s definitely a set back if your trying to put on muscle. The carbs after a workout will not be stored as fat as long as you haven’t been eating carbs all day. They will go to your liver and blood stream. Eating any carbs will put you out of “ketosis” technically, but if you only eat really small portions of it through the day it should not affect it to much. But after a workout eat plenty. About 100 grams or so. If you try to go into full ketosis it will take about a week of zero carbs to get there. Also you will have to eat twice as much protein to fuel blood sugar if you go full ketosis. That’s why I suggest some carbs. Even with eating small amounts of carbs your body will slowly become more efficient at burning fat for fuel eventually only portions of your brain will still need to run off of blood sugar the rest of your body will use fat, including what you have stored. I suggest you eat mostly monounsaturated fat, such as olive oil.

Carol asks…
Why does our body burns muscle for energy source?
When we’re doing cardio, i understand that first our body will use carbs as energy source, then fat, then if we do too much then it will start eating our muscles too. But why does that have to happen when we still have LOTS of fat for our body to use?
admin answers:
Some fats in your body are essential and cannot be completely mitigated without losing some muscle. If you wish to keep the muscle to combat the atrophy, eat lots of protein, and exercise with high weight and low reps for accelerated muscle building.
