John Your Questions About Carowinds

John asks…

How busy is Carowinds compared to Kings Dominion During Spring Break?

I’ve been planning on going to Kings Dominion during a sunday in May for my summer vacation.

I dont have any plans for spring break, so I’m thinking about going to Carowinds during the week.

Does anyone know which day out of the week of spring break that Carowinds is the least busy?

And will it be busier when i go to kings dominion in May, or Carowinds?

admin answers:

Shoot – they are both getting amazing new rollercoasters, so they will both be packed. If you must go to Carowinds during spring break, then go on a day where the weather forecast would elude people (cooler, cloudy, maybe slight chance of rain). Definitely go during a weekday (Mon-Thurs will be your best bet). It probably will be just as busy for both parks…during Carowind’s “Spring Break” week, it is shortly after Carowinds opens for the season so all of the kiddies will want to be one of the first people to check out the new rollercoaster during their Spring Break, and Kings Dominion’s new coaster will attract a lot of enthusiasts because of it’s size and uniqueness (the new coaster at Carowinds is similar to others of it’s type so I don’t think it’ll attract too many enthusiasts as compared to Kings Dominion’s new coaster).
Anyway, that’s my prediction. If I were you, I’d try to go to both parks during a weekday in May, when kids are at school and adults are at their job.
Good luck – have fun!!!

Jenny asks…

What type of shoes should we wear to Carowinds?

My family is going to Carowinds tomorrow and I was wondering what type of shoes we should wear?
I would prefer to wear rainbows (flip flops) but I am not sure what you are supposed to do with those when you ride a roller coaster.
The reason I don’t think we should wear tennis shoes is due to the fact of getting wet on the water rides.
We wore socks and sneakers to disney and once they got wet we had to walk around like that until they dried and the kids were miserable.
Any suggestions???

We are also taking one backpack if that makes a difference.

admin answers:

Well flip flops are ok but you can lose them on rides that don’t have a floor or ones that flip you. Flip Flops arn’t secrue on your feet. I have a suggestion, bring both flip flops and tennis shoes. Wear the tennis shoes on the roller coasters and thrill rides and the flip flops on water rides.

Sharon asks…

What is the story of the abandoned village area near Carowinds theme park in North Carolina?

A few years back, I rented a log cabin while visiting carowinds. After exploring the paths and trails around it, I came across an abandoned village/lake area, complete with an old water park ride, gazebo, and convention center, all dilapidated and mysterious. Does anyone know what the story is with that place, or why it was all abandoned?

admin answers:

Carowinds used to be a lot more than it was now i think it had a camp ground and a monorail type train like at disney. But I think they had some money troubles and edventually the park was bought by Paramont. According to the info on wikipedia the 1973 oil crisis took a big hit on carowinds and many plans for it were abandoned

In 1993 Paramount Communications bought the park then Viacom then purchased Paramount in 1994…where we are today.

How much is a ticket to Carowinds?

How much is a general admission ticket to Carowinds? Their website does not list the 2010 rates, so if you know the 2009 price that would give me a good idea.

Does Carowinds have a starlight admission price or a later entry price to the park? How much is that?

admin answers:

I do not remember the exact prices, but I do not want you to be misled by the person who said they are about $20 a person (it’s more then that). For adult tickets, I believe they were around 38-42, something like that. I just moved down to SC, so I am just getting familiar w/ Carowinds and happened to look at their website around the end of this year’s season, and they had online specials (buy tickets online and get them cheaper, or you can buy an adult ticket at the “children’s” price) – anyway, I do not remember the exact price of general admission. They do not have a starlight admission/late entry price from what I could tell from the website (not too many parks have those specials). The rates for 2010 will be about the same, although the company that owns Carowinds is being sold to another company, so who knows if they will raise/lower prices for next year. I would expect an adult ticket to be around $35-42, though. Regular season passes were $69 last year, I think, so the regular admission being 1/2 that sounds right to me. Remember you also have to pay for parking (not sure how much they charge, probably between $8-15 per car). Hope that helps.
