Nancy Your Questions About Cars 2

Nancy asks…

Can anyone give me their codes for Kellogg’s Cars 2?

In specially marked boxes of Kellogg cereal there are codes to enter and redeem prizes from the movie Cars 2. My son and daughter are always trying to get prizes but we are forgetful and don’t enter them in time. Does any older person, not interested in the kiddie prizes want give us their codes?
Thank you.

William Your Questions About Cars 2

William asks…

What is the acceleration of 2 cars on a highway?

A car is traveling at a constant speed of 17 m/s on a highway. At the instant this car passes an entrance ramp, a second car enters the highway from the ramp. The second car starts from rest and has a constant acceleration. What acceleration must it maintain, so that the two cars meet for the first time at the next exit, which is 2.2 km away?

admin answers:

Let Car A be the car traveling at a constant speed of 17 m/s, and let Car B, be the car that starts from rest on the entrance ramp.
The key to answering this problem is to first realize that in order for them to meet at the next exit 2.2 km away, the time it takes for Car A to get to the exit must be the same as the time it takes for Car B to get to the exit.
Car A is going 17 m/s, so it takes (2200m)/(17m/s) = 129.41 seconds for Car A to reach the next exit.
Car B must have the same average speed as Car A, which is 17 m/s. If Car B’s acceleration is constant, then 17 m/s = (final speed – initial speed)/2 = final speed /2.
So Car B’s final speed is 34 m/s, hence it must maintain an acceleration of (34/129.41) = .263 m/s^2
