Gas vs. electric vehicles?
Cars and electric cars. I’m confused about something. I get the whole environmental thing, use less gas. But when it comes to the electric cars, well, isn’t that using power, which we’re also told to conserve? Change your light bulbs and use timers, but plug in your car? What am I missing here?
admin answers:
You’re missing nothing and in fact one of the few that gets it. We would need 20k + new coal or nuclear plants to provide the power for all Americans to drive electric cars. I am sure California would just LOVE more rolling blackouts and $800+ per month electric bills for small homes.
If any one doubts the figures, do the math yourself and see.

Sandra asks…
T-Party Brethren.. If God had wanted us to drive electric cars, would he have created octane?
Let’s forget for a moment that an electric motor is 90 percent efficient vs a gas engine’s 20 percent efficiency.. God wants us to rev our engines on the streets of gold in heaven in front of our holy mcmansions that he has gone to prepare for us.. there will be no electric cars in heaven friends!
admin answers:
There is nothing in the bible about electric cars but there is about oil. God wants us to have oil not electric.

Betty asks…
I want to get my husband a snow thrower / blower for his birthday… how does electric do vs. gas powered?
We live in South West Michigan, have a driveway wide enough for a two car garage but that isn’t very long and have to clear the sidewalk in front of our home also. It seems to me that an electric snow thrower would be ok… especially for the price. But what do you think?
admin answers:
There are advantages & disadvantages to an electric blower. The biggest being the cord you have to trail along with you. Ive repaired more than I care to think of when the owner gets the cord tangled in the auger. The other disadvantage is the loss of power. There is a drop in power when you have to use a long extension cord. Gas machines are more practical in that they do not lose power at any time. They will maintain a steady speed & not lag when they are put to a heavy load. They are more manuverable in tight situations because your not having to constantly move the cord around to avoid running over it. Ask anyone who has owned an electric machine how much fun it is to be tangled up in a stiff cold extension cord. If you live in Michigan my recommendation is to seriuosly consider a gas machine. They are more exspensive to purchase but you won’t wear it out in one season either. There are lots of small machines available @ Home Depot & Lowes but my choice would be Craftsman from Sears. Mainly because they stock a large number of parts & have a service department whereas Home & Lowes only carry the basics & have to order the rest. Nothing is more aggravating than to have to shovel snow by hand while waiting a week for a $3.00 part. Just a few things for you to consider. Also keep in mind the electric one doesn’t go vroom, vroom like the gas one. Guys love that!!!! He’ll be so impressed he’ll do every driveway in the neighborhood the first couple of snowfalls. Besides Craftsman are the official tools of Nascar.

Smart car vs. regular car?
If I were to get a Used 2008 Smart ForTwo Passion, is it an electric car? and if it is, how long would it take to charge it? and lets just say if the world runs out of gas, would I still be able to use an electric car?
admin answers:
The Smart is not an electric car. An electric version is under development, but not out yet. It runs on gas, same as most cars. If the world runs out of gas, your car will be the least of your worries.

Paul asks…
Does it seem that people focusing on alternate energy don’t look at a cost-benefit comparison?
There is a lot of talk about getting off of dependence on oil. Though gas prices are going up, it is still not as expensive as what is payed in Europe. But, alternate energies come at a cost, too. Electric cars would save all sorts of gas, great. But we aren’t building any more power plants – no one wants one by them. So, limited amount of electricity means more outages and higher bills. How much will the increased electric bill be vs the higher gas bills?
Ethanol…less CO2 emissions, yeah (of course nitrogen based emissions are higher..and worse for the environment). As people are just discovering, there is only so much farmland. Every acre of farmland used for ethanol is one less for food (can we say food shortages or higher prices). Not to mention, how much energy is used creating the ethanol?
I am not saying that we shouldn’t try to have alternatives. I am saying people need to take off the rose-colored glasses and make a realistic comparison.
Thoughts?
admin answers:
My thoughts – it shouldnt be about the money.
We should all take the responsibility to reduce our use of energy. And produce our own as much as possible. Including growing food instead of lawns and concrete and decking.
If people are happy to have satellite dishes on the fronts of their homes why not put a small wind turbine?
Walk more, cycle more, use public transport more.
Slow down our pace of life, give other people more thought and want less material and so called luxuries.

Donna asks…
Ethanol gas prices are they really lower?
I never really liked the idea of E85 because it doesn’t seem like the right solution i would much rather have an electric car or one that runs off of hydrogen. Now regarless of your thoughts on this debate the reason i tell you this is because i stoped caring about ethanol and there for stopped looking to see how cheap the gas was. This was back in the day of mid twos vs normal gas being 3 dollars but now that gas is at four dollars what is the average for ethanol. Is it still some were around three dollars or has it gone up with everything else and if so……why?
admin answers:
Anywhere from $2.50-$3.00 depending on where you are.
Expect this to increase dramatically due to food shortage issues. Maize dependent nations like Mexico are already struggling before the “shortage” because most of the corn in the US that would be sold to produce food is going towards making ethanol.

This would be me and my boyfriend living together. and my parents ARE paying for the house rent monthly payment. they want me to move out. lol. But i’m limiting myself to like $1000 a month. hopefully?
admin answers:
First of all if you do decide to buy .you and your boyfriend Nedda to make sure you take title as anything other than joint tenants.please refer to your agent /loan officer which would be better.the reason not to goes as joint tenants, is that joint tenants are usually married and have in case of death rights of survivor ship.and also if you break up god forbid its a pain to sell or the other to buy you out especially if it a bad break. Okay as far as buying or renting to find out take your monthly combined earnings using your net income times that by no more than 40 % for example lets says you both bring home 6000.00 combined net times by 40 % equals 2400 well That would be what yu can spend on housing whether renting or buying.60 % goes towards bills and well life and enjoying it.so i hope this helps
as far as utilities if you buy you are usually the one on the hook sorry.
So with out knowing a sales price that’s interest you or how much each of you make its hard to say whats better FOR you. I think though as with must things you’ll know when its right. Buying a home though isn’t to be fear its a pleasure and endless joy of knowing going home is truly that.
