Jenny Your Questions About Electric Cars 2011

Jenny asks…

What do you think of this Government incentive of £5,000 cash for electric car buyers in 2011?

In my view it’s great for anyone who only has to drive round the block, but what about motorists such as myself who have to travel 300 miles every 8 weeks from Manchester to Newcastle upon Tyne and back in the same day, to attend hospital appointments with my Grandson. I worked out that with all the stopping for charging that would be required, it would probably take me about 24 hours to travel the 300 miles, instead of the 3 hours it currently takes me in my diesel car, so in my view totally unrealistic. What are your thoughts about future low or carbon free motoring, what is the way forward?
203: I would definitely consider buying an electric car in the next 3-5 years, if they could develope a vehicle with a range of 150 miles between charging, instead of the 30ish miles they currently travel between charges. Also they really have to work on the styling of such a vehicle, I mean have you seen the G-Wizz, it’s not exactly Pininfarina is it.

admin answers:

‘plug in hybrids’ are apparently included in the scheme, so you can benefit.

Either the upcoming Prius or General Motors’ Volt would benefit. You charge these and they’re good for 40 or 60 miles on electricity, and they do the rest on petrol. So you get 80-120 miles a day done more cheaply and cleanly than with petrol.

On the whole I think it’s going to be an expensive way to cut emissions in the short term but if it helps bring about an electric car economy a few years earlier then it’s a good idea. It’s probably going to be years after 2011 before electric cars are a serious proportion of vehicles, but it’s an exciting thing to look forwards to. icon smile Your Questions About Electric Cars 2011

William Your Questions About Electric Cars 2011

William asks…

Why aren’t more liberals buying electric cars?

http://green.autoblog.com/2011/03/01/gm-sells-281-chevy-volts-february-nissan-67-leafs/

GM only has sold about 1,703 volts so far. Lack of sales may doom this car. Why aren’t liberals flocking to buy this vehicle since they
1) supported the UAW bailout of GM
2) hate oil companies
3) love the environment

LMAO look at the answers from them here all the answer say the same thing the technology is not yet developed enough huh maybe we should be drilling.
Libs don’t ever again tell me to go “green” when you guys won’t do so yourselves.
