David asks…

Hydrogen Peroxide?

Ok so my dog had a hematoma in her ear, she got it cut open and drained (gross I know) they put a tube in her ear with three stiches so it can drain more for three weeks. My vet is closed and her cut looks a little infected can I use hydrogen peroxide till we go to the vet? Any help would be great.
Thanks. I don’t have betadine and I am not sure why the vet didn’t give her antibiotics. What about neosporin?

admin answers:

Yes, you sure can. I would use it only once tonight to clean the area and one more time tomorrow morning. In the morning call your vet and make an appointment for them to take a peak, OK?

ADD: NO rubbing alcohol!!!!!! Peroxide is FINE. Clean it with peroxide and apply a little Neosporin.

Michael Your Questions About Hydrogen Peroxide

Michael asks…

hydrogen peroxide?

Does any know what would happen if a grown adult drank 2 or 3 oz. of hydrogen peroxide? My drunk friend just drank some and I’m worried about it!! Thanks for any help. Please don’t answer if you don’t know.

admin answers:

Ingestion of dilute solutions of hydrogen peroxide may result
in vomiting, mild gastrointestinal irritation, gastric distension,
and on rare occasions, gastrointestinal erosions or embolism
(blockage of blood vessels by air bubbles). Ingestion of
solutions of 10-20% strength produces similar symptoms, but
exposed tissues may also be burned.
Most sources say if the solution is 3 to 6% and only a little was consumed they will probably be alright. But if they complain of abdominal pain, nausea, persistent vomitting, diarrhea, seem lathargic, or have trouble breathing take them to the hospital. I would take the person to the hospital to be on the safe side if they have any of the above symptoms. Any solution above 3 to 6% has been associated with death.

Ruth Your Questions About Hydrogen Peroxide

Ruth asks…

How is hydrogen peroxide bad for infected ear piercings and what are alternative methods?

My ear got infected and was oozing bloody puss a few days ago. My mom put Hydrogen Peroxide and Neosporin on it and it hasn’t pussed or anything since, however, it still feels swollen and it’s hard to/hurts to twist the ear ring. I got on here to look for answers and kept reading the hydrogen peroxide is bad for it, which brings me to my original question. How is hydrogen peroxide bad for infected ear piercings and what are alternative methods?

admin answers:

Yeah i’ve heard hydrogen peroxide dries it and take longer to heal. It’s better than nothing though. If you got it pierced professionally, they should give something to clean your ear with, but if not then mix sea salt and water and apply it with a q-tip. Also keep twisting it. And i heard vaseline is good for piercings because it keeps stuff out of the piercing, like bacteria, but i haven’t actually tried it.

Hope that helps
