Should we have solar-powered electric car charging stations developed and installed in your school/workplace?
simply state here if you are agree or disagree to have solar-powered electric car charging stations developed and installed in your school or your workplace
admin answers:
Our workplace has had 4 electric charging stations for the past decade or so, but they’re run off the standard grid.
The economy being what it is, I can’t imagine solar panels being put up unless they’re profitable for the company paying for them.

Who will pay for the expensive power?

Jenny asks…
If building charging stations for electric cars was a profitable business, why does the government want to?
subdize their development?
Wouldn’t the be like parking meters? You get out of your car, plug your car in, plug your coins for parking & charging in the machine. So if the city / town / businesses will make a profit, why does Obama want to subdize the building of charging stations?
admin answers:
The reason they want to subsidize it is obvious if you follow the money it is sort of like th Carnahan wind farm deal , his brother the congressman ear marks a grant, he grabs it and his sister the now defeated senatorial candidate and 0bama friend, along with Barry and the democrats made sure that while the business venture is a losing proposition , their people get a whole lot of government cash

Daniel asks…
How are electric car owners going to pay to fuel their cars with all the charging stations the gov is giving?
I pay for gas at the pump are these charging stations able to charge for electricity given out. Is the electricity taxed with the gas tax for roads and highways?
admin answers:
They’ll probably raise the gas tax. I would hope they’d charge the same for a charge. People who believe this will save the environment are mistaken. A study done in britain clearly showed that the carbon foot print from an electric car is the same as a gas powered vehicle. Why you ask? Well, in a country where coal fired power plants provide electricity they have found that the electricity used to power the car, has the same carbon foot print as a gas powered car because of the amount of coal used to charge the electric car. The study listed france as an exception, since france is 100% nuclear power….

Sandy asks…
ev1 electric car charging station?
why dont they convert the old ev1 charging station to the new charging station 4 the new electric cars??? or @lest give a discount on doing that or rebate on conerting???
admin answers:
Just as the EV1 era has progressed from heavy and toxic lead-sulfuric acid batteries to non-toxic lithium manganese oxide batteries with 10′s of kilowatt-hours of stored energy capacity, so has charging technology and requisite electrical safety requirements to meet UL standards.
The new standard is called SAE J1772. It allows for either 120VAC (any household outlet) or 208/240VAC Single-Phase (dedicated circuit) charging. The new chargers also cleverly communicate the amperage available, so the vehicle can charge as rapidly and efficiently as the power source will allow.
For safety, there is a built-in 20mA ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) that continuously self-tests and is self-resetting. This varies from the standard bathroom/kitchen GFCI that is rated 5mA, which would cause nuisance tripping if used to charge vehicles, depends upon manual testing to verify functional safety, and does not self-reset. The charger also continuously verifies that the grounding conductor is present and electrically sound. There is also a low-energy pilot signal that verifies that the connector is fully and securely engaged with the vehicle before allowing the cable to become fully energized. Lastly, the J1772 connector is designed such that the grounding pin always electrically mates first, and always detaches last.
Why so many layers of safety? It is expected that drivers will occasionally have to plug and unplug their vehicles in the rain or while standing in puddles. And yes, you can.
There is also Level 3 fast DC charging, which uses the CHAdeMo interface, and available as a $700 option on the Nissan Leaf (that comes standard with the J1772). However, a Level 3 charger requires a 480VAC 60A 3-Phase power source, that’s 50 kilowatts, and seldom found outside of industrial or other special dedicated situations. Nevertheless, it is anticipated that Level 3 charging stations will proliferate in the future on interstate and major highways, enabling long distance travel for pure electric vehicles such as the Leaf.

Ken asks…
How would you charge an electric car?
I just read the news about Nissan taking sign ups for the Leaf car or something like that.
But how would you charge the car? Will they be making a car charging stations or something? Or only people who lives in single houses will buy? because they have outlet walls in front of their house?
What about if your in the city?
let me know guys i’m just really really curious. thanks.
