The volt, the leaf, and a high end car built by BMW will soon hit the Canadian market in 2011. That is what I’ve heard, anyway.

Not that I’ve heard. Currently there only 3 car models available for purchase by the public, the Nissan Leaf, the Chevy Volt (not really an electric car) and the Tesla roadster. Both Nissan and GM are playing availability games. If you don’t have a reservation on the Leaf now, no car until 2012. GM is only planning to make 10,000 Volts and is only planning to sell them in select cities (mine isn’t one of them). That leaves only the Tesla roadster. Tesla makes no bones about it, if you cough up the $110K you can have the car anywhere that the local government isn’t blocking sales.

Are electric cars worthless when it comes to helping the environment?
I find it hypocritical that the Chevy Volt was Motortrend Car of the Year 2011. What is the use of an electric car not putting out emissions if it uses toxic batteries and its power comes from a coal or fossil fuel plant.

General UK news story, about a £5000 subsidy to be given to members of the public who buy electric, from 2011 onwards.
That new, small, Tata car is very cheap isn’t it? Electric vehicles would have to compete on price too, to be more viable &popular.

Question about electric cars?
I was looking into the 2011 Chevrolet Volt. It is an electric car and has amazing gas mileage. But, in order to charge the battery, you have to use electricity, and I was just wondering how much it would raise my electric bill?

You do realize that the volt has a gas engine that drives a generator that charges the battery so you don’t have to charge it. You can drive up to 40 miles if you do charge it but its not required.

In terms of performances, design, autonomy, environment, fuel mileage ( miles per gallon, or kilometer per liter )etc
And how much is it?

I don’t know about hybrids but there no electric cars coming from any of those brands before 2012 and more likely 2014. And as for best hybrid it is a matter of taste and pocketbook. The best place to look is the websites for your brands of interest. If the car is available for sale it will be there with all of the specs.
