Donna Your Questions About Biodiesel Conversion

Donna asks…

oi mates biodiesel conversion info any1?

i wanna learn how to convert a engine in a beautiful mgb gt into a biodiesel engine. full conversion, and full restoration to the vehicle, can anybody give me sites, or anything?

admin answers:

Hi – the 1.8litre MGB ‘B’ series engine uses petrol whereas bio diesel is for diesel or derv engines.
You would need to change the whole engine and gearbox including the wiring loom for a derv powered one.
It is possible to run the original engine on bio-ethanol fuel and I suggest you contact the MG owners club in the UK for any further details. At the least you would need a new complete cylinder head.

Helen Your Questions About Biodiesel Conversion

Helen asks…

Gasoline to Biodiesel conversion?

Why can’t you take a diesel injection pump, and inject a small amount of extremely(autoignition temp) heated diesel(lowest injection throttle setting) right before entry into the spark plug hole to allow ignition of biodiesel/air mix from port fuel injectors? Complete combustion may not occur because of short stroke length, and lack of compression heat but would enough coking occur to destroy engine?

admin answers:

Gasoline engines do not have a high enough compression ratio to do the job, heated fuel or not. Even if it did work, eventually you would destroy the engine by cracking, or simply blowing out the engine head. Sorry, but if you want to use Bio-diesel, buy a diesel engine, or a diesel vehicle.
